What We Do
There are a lot of idea on what the church is and what it should be. Many books have bee written about it and even more debates, discussions and arguments have been had regarding this. We can't hope to explain all of what we do and why on this page. It would be long boring and you probably wouldn't even read it all - I wouldn't!
Having said that we do want you to know a little about what we do and why we do it. We believe that one of the things Jesus intentionally did while He was on this earth was create a community of people who live like they belong to God's Kingdom even though they are still subject to all broken Kingdom's, communities and leadership of this earth.
It is apparent by looking at history that the church has not always done this well and a simple glance in the media today would tell you that there are many churches that still struggle with this today. It is a difficult road to navigate because wrong is very present in this world and sometimes everyone is at a loss on how to respond to it. Take for example the number of people who die every year from mal-nutrition and preventable diseases or the people who live, not by their own choice but because of where they were born, under genocidal dictatorial leadership. It is neither just nor fair. Even in our own lives we see the injustice of people who treat us poorly by spreading lies about us, taking what belongs to us and showing utter disregard for the humanity that we posses.
This is simply not the message of Jesus or of the Kingdom of God. His message and Kingdom is one of love, kindness and compassion. A commodity that can be difficult to find in our day to day lives and still more difficult to demonstrate to others when injustice occurs to us. Yet at the heart of our church body we aim to live as disciples of Jesus. Despite the fact that he came centuries ago His unique message of hope and love is still relevant to us today, it continues to change, soften, strengthen the lives of billions throughout the world.
This is what drives us to gather together on Sunday's and throughout the week. To encourage each other to live in love, mercy and compassion. To learn more about Jesus, whom we try to live like. To find creative and relevant ways to express this good news about God's Kingdom to the people who we come in contact with in Antigonish and the surrounding areas.
This may sound lofty and idealistic and in a way it is. That's okay - we understand that. Hopefully it peeks your interest because our interests were peeked by the exact same message. Although we are not perfect in living in this way we continue to press on, like a runner chasing down the finish line with vigor, endurance and passion. If you want to see what this run is all about then connect with us, watch us, and ask questions. We'd love to get to know you and do our best to show you a little more about who Jesus was and is.
